It’s always more comfortable doing business with someone you know! That is why the following information has been prepared-so you will feel more comfortable doing business with us here at Hands on Health Wellness Center:
Hello, I am
Alisha Smith and founder of Hands on Health Wellness Center. I was born and raised in Torrance, California, and have lived in Nampa, Idaho for over 30 years. I am the mother of 10 children: 8 boys and 2 girls, and a Jack Russell Terrier named Abunnydance. When I am not working I enjoy riding my bicycle, hiking, ball room dancing, and doing Yoga.
When I was sick as a child and teenager, my mother would use foot reflexology to help me feel more comfortable and hasten my recovery. As a young mother, I had a son with TMJ headaches. I learned acupressure points from a book to relieve his pain. One day, over 18 years ago, when I was swimming with my children, I was introduced to the almost instant effect of aromatherapy upon a sobbing child who had slipped on the wet floor. As I searched for more information about essential oils, everything I read mentioned massage. As I explored massage, I found Asian bodywork and the Ammatherapy program at The Wellspring School for Healing Arts.
There were several things that intrigued me about the Amma Program. It tied together, and helped me understand at a deeper level why and how reflexology, acupressure and essential oils worked. This program supported my development as a person and a practitioner. It emphasized living what I was taught.
As I developed my skills in Chinese medicine: Amma Bodywork, diet therapy, Chinese herbs, wholistic nutrition, tai chi, Qi Gong, and Yoga, I knew this was something I wanted to share with others.
After graduating in 1997, I worked in Meridian and Boise for Relaxation Station. After 18 months, I decided to move my practice to The Wellspring, where I had access to additional resources, namely, my teachers, the herbal pharmacy, and movement classes.
I have a passion for continuing education. So I continued my education in Swedish massage at the Idaho Institute of Wholistic Studies. I have taken Chinese and western herb classes, and certified as a Nutritional Therapist through the Nutritional Therapy Association of Olympia, Washington. I am also certified in the therapeutic use of essential oils, in reflexology, and as a Doula childbirth coach. I also have learned the Onsen Technique for structural bodywork and pain relief. I recently finished a Whole Foods Nutrition course through The Wellspring.
In 2000 I decided to open an office in my home town, Nampa. Hands on Health was birthed in the historic Hasbrouck House. Over the next few years we grew and expanded by adding Swedish massage, detoxifying body wraps, facials, emotional and spiritual counseling, and whole foods nutrition to the Amma Bodywork and Chinese Medicine. In February of 2007 we moved to our present location to better accommodate our growing vision. We now have space to teach classes in Yoga, aromatherapy, whole foods nutrition, and meditation.
You know how some people are always putting others first and have a difficult time taking care of themselves? They are usually exhausted, stressed out, and often are overweight. Well, what I do is inspire people to live their life on purpose and with integrity. As a result, they enjoy more passion, vitality, and freedom which ripple out to their family, work place, and our community. It is my passion to make a difference in the world by inspiring purpose.
